Clean Water
We have successfully engineered some of the most challenging and high-profile clean water conveyance tunnel projects. Our expertise in pressure tunnel and segmental lining design, grouting, tunnel boring machine and conventional excavation methods, hydrogeology, support of excavation, and final lining design has allowed us to offer solutions to our clients at every step including preliminary planning, detailed design, and support of services during construction.
Our expertise extends to pressure tunnel design, tunnel rehabilitation, and pipeline conduit design in a wide range of ground conditions, from soft ground to hard rock.
Recycled Water
A key challenge to the widespread use of recycled water is the need for new water conveyance, which may include interregional long-distance pipelines through areas of dense urban development or crossings of environmentally sensitive areas.
By leveraging our design and construction expertise in water conveyance, geotechnical engineering, and trenchless technologies, Hoffman Tunnels continues to serve clients in planning, design, and construction of recycled water projects in a variety of roles — including designer, construction manager, and owner’s engineer.
Storage & Treatment
Underground storage and treatment works bring together every discipline we practise: deep shafts, conveyance tunnels, pump stations, caverns and outfalls, all within a single operating envelope.
We design for the realities of a working utility — access, odour control, staged commissioning, and the need to keep the system running while we build it.
Reservoirs & Raw Water
Raw water tunnels, dam seepage galleries, and outlet works behave differently from treated-water assets. We account for sediment, abrasion, and the consequences of a raw-water transient long before it reaches the design life.
Our hydropower and water teams share geotechnical models and instrumentation strategies, so a raw-water intake and its downstream tunnel are designed as one system.
